• City Council approves $8.13 million appropriation to balance school budget (thereminder.com) — Chicopee’s City Council has unanimously approved transferring $8.13 million into a stabilization account to plug a looming FY27 school budget gap caused by a state reclassification of low-income students. City and school leaders say the rollover funds will balance next year’s budget but warn of a future ā€œbudget cliffā€ as they lobby state and federal officials and plan longer-term adjustments.

• Chicopee Fire Department announces upgrades to enhance emergency response services (thereminder.com) — Chicopee’s Fire Department has upgraded all engine and ladder companies to Basic Life Support status, meaning firefighters can now deliver more advanced on-scene medical care across the city. Backed by the mayor, firefighters union, and City Council, the change adds tools for diabetic, breathing, and allergy emergencies. Officials say it will significantly improve response when ambulances are delayed or unnecessary.

• Over 100 graduate from Hampden Sheriff support program (wwlp.com) — More than 100 people just graduated in Chicopee from the Hampden County Sheriff’s All-Inclusive Support Services program, which helps former inmates rebuild their lives. Graduates and Sheriff Nick Cocchi highlighted how the program offers family-like support, mental health resources, and practical guidance to ease reentry into the community. The ceremony marked the program’s 27th annual class.
