Helping Your Child Build Strong Phonics Skills at Home

Helping Your Child Build Strong Phonics Skills at Home

Learning to read begins with a strong phonics foundation. When children understand the relationship between letters and sounds, they are better able to decode unfamiliar words, improve reading fluency, and gain confidence as readers.

Parents can support phonics development at home by:
• Practicing letter sounds regularly.
• Reading together each day and encouraging children to sound out unfamiliar words.
• Looking for common spelling patterns and word families.
• Making phonics practice engaging through games and hands-on activities.
• Celebrating effort, persistence, and the use of reading strategies.

Remember, progress happens one skill at a time. Even a few minutes of intentional practice each day can help strengthen your child’s reading abilities.

At Fostering Student Growth, LLC, I provide personalized one-on-one tutoring for students in grades K–8, focusing on foundational reading skills, phonics, fluency, comprehension, writing, math, and test preparation.
