1. Hadley ZBA approves conversion of old village hall into five apartments (gazettenet.com) — Hadley’s Zoning Board of Appeals has approved a variance allowing North Hadley Village Hall on River Drive to be converted into five apartments plus office space for Bramucci Construction. Neighbors raised concerns about traffic and greenspace, but board members cited housing needs, tax benefits, and preservation of the historic building, with site plans now heading to the Planning Board.
   

2. Art that really soars: Hopkins Academy student installation at Hadley Public Library is strictly for the birds (gazettenet.com) — Hadley residents can currently see “Take Flight!”, a large flock of student-made papier-mâché birds hanging throughout the Hadley Public Library, created by Hopkins Academy students. The exhibit helps visitors learn about Massachusetts bird species and showcases local youth art, and it may remain on display through November during regular library hours.
   

3. ‘Kind of sad, but inevitable' (commonsnews.org) — Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters has permanently closed its Hadley store, costing at least 20 local employees their jobs, as the third-generation family business winds down all locations. Owner Brad Borofsky describes rising costs, online competition, and industry changes that made continuing impossible, even though he praises Hadley as a great town to do business in.
   

4. Grassroots movement reaches $2M milestone for Hampshire College site (gazettenet.com) — Hampshire Next, a nonprofit of Hampshire College supporters, has raised $2 million in pledges as it works to buy the college’s campus and surrounding land in Amherst and Hadley before the school closes in 2026. The group hopes to create a new educational village while other bidders propose different futures, and trustees still plan to sell land to meet financial obligations.
