• GE, EPA Detail Plans for Pittsfield Rest of River Cleanup (iberkshires.com) — Lee is slated to host the Upland Disposal Facility that will receive contaminated sediment from GE’s five-year cleanup of the Housatonic River in Pittsfield, with site work expected to start in late 2027. Materials will be staged, dewatered, and then shipped either to the Lee facility or off-site, prompting health and safety questions from nearby residents. Public comments on the cleanup design are open through Aug. 10.
   

• Berkshire Humane Society Receives $120K in Grants to Help Pets, People (iberkshires.com) — A wave of new grants is boosting animal welfare services across the Berkshires, including a $5,000 award from the Lee Bank Foundation to support Berkshire Humane Society’s SafePet program for people in crisis. Additional funding will underwrite spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost veterinary care, children’s education visits, and thousands of Pet Food Bank requests. These investments aim to keep local families and their pets healthy and together.
