(wbur.org) — A Malden home cook's viral Filipino empanadas were shut down after city inspectors enforced rules that ban all residential kitchen food sales, even low-risk items. Community support helped her land affordable space at Stock Pot Malden, while a proposed state bill could eventually let Malden residents legally sell certain homemade foods from home.
   

• 30 Local Firefighters Graduate from Firefighting Academy (advocatenews.net) — Two new Malden firefighters, Justin Horvath and Hadari Binda, have graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's intensive 50-day recruit program, joining 28 peers from across the state. Their training covered everything from fire attack and rescue to hazardous materials response, preparing them to protect Malden residents in a wide range of emergencies.
   

• CFO of former Malden medical device supplier sentenced to prison term for bribing surgeons in kickback scheme (advocatenews.net) — A former executive of SpineFrontier, a spinal implant company once based in Malden, has been sentenced to prison and fined for conspiring to pay surgeons sham consulting fees to use the firm's products. Federal authorities say the scheme generated millions in revenue and stress that ongoing enforcement aims to protect patients and taxpayer-funded health programs.
