• State Awards Manchester $224,510 in Chapter 90 Funding (thecricket.com) — Manchester-by-the-Sea will receive $224,510 in Chapter 90 state funding to help repair local roads and bridges, potentially easing pressure around the long-delayed Central Street culvert and bridge project at Central and Elm. While the town still awaits restored FEMA support and is pursuing state economic development grants with Rockport, Gloucester, and Essex, this new money positions Manchester to tackle key transportation and resiliency needs.

• Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald Honored for Leadership, Public Service (manchestermapd.com) — Manchester-by-the-Sea’s longtime Police Chief and Emergency Management Director Todd Fitzgerald has been honored with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s Mayor Theodore Mann Regional Leadership Award for his work on Cape Ann’s emergency shelter and preparedness planning. As he prepares to retire July 6 after 33 years in law enforcement, regional officials credit him with building a coordinated mass care and Red Cross shelter system that better protects vulnerable residents during disasters.

• Nauticals of Marblehead — a second Life (marbleheadcurrent.org) — Manchester-by-the-Sea gets a nod as one of the North Shore boatyards that inspired Marblehead artisan Dede Nowland to turn aging wooden hulls into furniture and popular nautical chart trays. After closing Nauticals of Marblehead in 2020, she’s now collaborating with sculptor Michael Weiss to revive the tray line, with new pieces debuting at the Marblehead Festival of Arts and online for custom orders.
