Marblehead Arts Association Member Joins Boston's Prestigious St. Botolph Club

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A Marblehead Arts Association artist member is joining one of Boston's longstanding arts institutions.

Dr. Eleanor Ruth Fisher, PsyD, a North Shore resident and Lynn native, has been accepted as a member of the St. Botolph Club in Boston. The club was founded in 1880 as a gathering place for people with an interest in the arts, sciences and humanities.

Fisher is an artist and therapist with more than 45 years in private practice. In 1991, she began teaching herself to paint.

In 2010, she developed a new art form called Glass Shard Painting.

That process consists of a full acrylic painting on canvas layered with hand-cut and carved glass shards and other materials, then coated with liquid polymer resin, according to the announcement.

Fisher's work has been shown in galleries throughout New England and New York. Her art hangs in private collections in many parts of the United States and in several countries.

Fisher is also a longtime juried Artist Member of the Marblehead Arts Association. She is currently exhibiting one of her glass shard paintings, "I Choose Freedom," at the Hooper Mansion galleries as part of the Marblehead Arts Association's themed 250th anniversary show, "The Spirit of '76."

The St. Botolph Club began as a gentlemen's club. It opened its doors to women "as equal and honored members" in 1988. The club hosts exhibitions for member and non-member artists and has included artists such as Claude Monet and John Singer Sargent.

Fisher's acceptance connects a North Shore artist with a Boston institution known for exhibiting work across disciplines.

Her current exhibit in Marblehead gives local residents a chance to see her work while she begins this new chapter with the Boston organization.
