Marblehead Community To Remember High School Student-Athlete At Memorial Service
A church service for Owen Paradise Coyne was set for Thursday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead. He was 17.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Family, friends and fellow Marblehead High School students and staff will have another chance to remember the life and promise of Owen Paradise Coyne at a memorial service on Thursday for the senior student-athlete who died last week of a brain hemorrhage.
He was 17 years old.
There was an outpouring of community support for the family and the school across the North Shore this weekend as neighboring schools and athletic teams shared tributes, while a vigil was held with many wearing Coyne's No. 18 shirts.

The school and family announced the death of the third-sport star, who recently committed to play football at Williams College, late last week, with counselors on hand at the school throughout the weekend for those in need.
Coyne's memorial page remembered him as "a true gift to everyone who ever had the privilege of meeting him."

"Owen was smart, inspiring and kind, respected both in the classroom and on the field," the remembrance said. "Owen was an exceptional student, challenging himself with nearly all AP and honors classes, and earning a 4.0 GPA.
"He was currently a proud Co-Captain of the Marblehead Magicians Varsity Football Team. He also competed in Varsity baseball and Varsity Track & Field, where his dedication, determination and talent made him a standout athlete. Among the many awards and accolades bestowed upon Owen over the years, he was most proud to be named the recipient of the Charles Lovely Student-Athlete Award at the end of last year's football season."
Coyne was also remembered as a loving son, grandson and brother, avid sailor and lover of outdoor activities.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to The Owen P. Coyne Scholarship Fund, c/o National Grand Bank, 91 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA 01945.
