Marlborough Awarded $35K Grant To Expand Career Technical Education

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A $35,000 state grant will help expand career technical education opportunities for Marlborough students.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded the funding through its Career and Technical Education Partnership Program Planning Grant. State Sen. Jamie Eldridge and state Reps. Danielle Gregoire and Carmine Gentile announced the award on Tuesday.

The grant will support Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School staff as they develop curriculum outside regular school hours. The programs are intended to help students earn industry-recognized credentials and participate in work-based learning opportunities.

A portion of the funding will also support pre-construction design, agricultural and engineering activities to provide appropriate instructional environments, according to the lawmakers.

Career technical education combines academic instruction with hands-on experience to prepare students for employment and postsecondary education. The state grant program supports partnerships that expand student opportunities through better use of existing resources and capacity.

“By supporting the development of these programs, we’re helping students gain the hands-on experience and practical skills they need to pursue meaningful post-graduation opportunities,” Eldridge said.

Gregoire said the funding will help Marlborough prepare students to enter the workforce.

“Marlborough is yet again demonstrating its commitment to delivering vital educational programs and preparing the next generation of skilled workers,” she said.
