Meet First Responders At Melrose Public Safety Night Next Week

MELROSE, MA — Residents will have the chance to meet first responders, explore emergency vehicles and watch live demonstrations when Public Safety Night returns to Melrose next week.

The free event will take place Wednesday, July 15, from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cabbage Patch Field in front of the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School and High School. The annual event is hosted by the Melrose Police Department, Fire Department, and Melrose Chamber of Commerce.

Police and fire personnel will host demonstrations throughout the evening while allowing residents to get an up-close look at emergency vehicles and specialized equipment. Several regional public safety agencies are also expected to participate, including the Middlesex Sheriff's Office Command Center, Armstrong Ambulance, the Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team, which will have its BearCat armored vehicle on display.

The event will also feature a Touch-a-Truck area with community partners, including McGarvey Towing and local construction vehicles. Children and families will have the opportunity to explore a variety of trucks and heavy equipment throughout the evening.

Members of the Wicked Jeeps club are also scheduled to attend with a collection of Jeeps on display for visitors.

In addition to the vehicle displays and demonstrations, organizers have planned games, food and music from a DJ. The event is free and open to the public.

"It should be loads of fun," Melrose Police Lt. Paul Norton told Patch.

Public Safety Night is one of several community outreach events hosted by Melrose's public safety agencies each year, alongside National Night Out, which is intended to strengthen relationships between first responders and the community.
