Parked Vehicle Blocks Emergency Response At Melrose Fire Station
This motor vehicle incident was preventing the department from assisting with another.
MELROSE, MA — A parked vehicle prevented a fire engine from responding to a crash in the city.
Melrose Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with reported injuries on Vinton Street shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday. Engine 2 was unable to respond because a vehicle parked on the front ramp of Fire Headquarters was blocking the apparatus door.
No one was inside the vehicle, and its driver could not be located. Another fire unit was able to respond to the scene. Melrose Police were called to the station, and McGarvey Towing removed the vehicle.

“Please do not park in front of the fire station doors at any time, for any reason,” firefighters said in a statement. “An urgent call for help could happen at any moment.”
Engine 2 personnel have been temporarily stationed at Central Fire Headquarters on Main Street since the Tremont Street station closed in March. The station is being rebuilt as part of the city's Public Safety Buildings Project, with completion expected in fall 2027.
