Needham learns from the past: First Pollard project shaped town's build process (needhamobserver.com) — Needham's current Pollard Middle School planning is being guided by hard lessons from the troubled 1992 renovation, which ran over budget and drew a state investigation. In response, the town created the Permanent Public Building Committee and a professional design and construction department, which leaders say now keep major school and municipal projects on time, under budget, and more transparent for residents.
   

3. Needham Circle aims to create community connections (needhamobserver.com) — Needham residents are invited to the new Needham Circle kickoff at the Town Common this Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring games, a DJ, and newcomer resources. Founders hope to strengthen neighborhood connections, better use public spaces, and spark intergenerational friendships through future events, conversations with local business owners, and community-building activities.
   

4. Needham, Massachusetts: Needham High School Junior Elijah Chen Dies Suddenly (theunionstar.com) — Needham is mourning the sudden death of Needham High School junior Elijah Chen, a football and track athlete whose passing has deeply affected students, staff, and families across town. Schools have mobilized counselors, mental health professionals, and comfort dogs, and are directing families to local and regional grief resources as the community supports Chen's siblings and loved ones in the days ahead.
   

5. Man injured in Dedham hit-and-run (nbcboston.com) — A Dedham pedestrian was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a Wednesday night hit-and-run on Needham Street, with the vehicle seen heading toward Needham. Police quickly identified a suspected driver after relatives called asking about a possible deer strike, and investigators have seized the vehicle as they continue to examine what happened.
