How local Red Sox prospect Jack Winnay fared in first full pro season (yardbarker.com) — Red Sox infield prospect Jack Winnay, a Newton native and Belmont Hill alum, just wrapped up an impressive first full pro season despite a late forearm injury. Splitting time between High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, he posted elite on-base numbers and rising power, vaulting into the organization's top-25 prospects and positioning himself for a possible promotion to Triple-A Worcester next year.

Elected officials rally against USPS plan to close Allston post office permanently (nbcboston.com) — Boston officials are fighting a U.S. Postal Service plan to permanently close the Allston post office, and they're using Newton as a key comparison point. Council President Liz Breadon notes Allston-Brighton's 87,000 residents have just one post office, while Newton, with similar population, has 10, underscoring concerns about equitable access to basic services in nearby neighborhoods.
