1. City dedicates Setti D. Warren Plaza in Newtonville (newtonbeacon.org) — Newtonville's Austin Street plaza has been officially renamed the Setti D. Warren Plaza, honoring the late former mayor in the neighborhood where he grew up. Local leaders, residents, and John Kerry gathered during Newtonville Village Day to share memories and celebrate the space Warren helped transform from a parking lot into a busy community hub.
   

2. 3 injured when vehicle plows into Massachusetts golf course pro shop (wsbtv.com) — A car slammed into the pro shop at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, sending the driver and two employees to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Fire officials and a city engineer checked the building's structural integrity, ultimately deeming it safe and boarding up the damaged wall. The historic course remains open after the scare.
   

3. Police staffing challenges lead to vacant crossing guard posts (figcitynews.com) — Newton is short four school crossing guards this fall, leaving key intersections near neighborhood schools temporarily unstaffed while police struggle with broader hiring shortages. City leaders plan to use trained staff at two posts starting September 28, and residents concerned about safe routes to school can track locations, maps, and job details through Newton Public Schools and the Police Department.
   

4. Former Scituate library and historic Newton home hit the market (wcvb.com) — A historic Queen Anne Victorian in Newton, once home to Rev. Francis E. Clark and built as a missionary residence in 1895, is now for sale as its longtime owner downsizes.
