The RealReal To Open First Massachusetts Store In Chestnut Hill

NEWTON, MA — A new luxury resale store is preparing to make its Massachusetts debut next month.

The RealReal will open its first store in the state at The Street Chestnut Hill on Thursday, Oct. 15. The 1,800-square-foot shop will be located at 27 Boylston St. and offer women’s and men’s fashion, handbags, fine jewelry, watches and accessories. Customers will also be able to consign luxury items in person, receive valuations, and schedule private appointments for certain jewelry, watches, handbags, and other items.

“Boston has been a market we’ve had our eye on for a long time. We already have a strong community of buyers and consignors here, and Chestnut Hill gives us the opportunity to meet them where they live, shop and spend their everyday lives,” Chief Merchandising Officer of The RealReal Samantha McCandless said. “There’s a real appreciation for quality, craftsmanship and longevity in this market, which aligns incredibly well with how today’s luxury consumer is shopping.” The store will carry previously owned items from a variety of luxury brands, with its inventory changing as new products are consigned.

The RealReal said its existing base of buyers and consignors throughout Greater Boston was among the reasons it selected The Street for its first Massachusetts location. The opening will also expand the company's physical retail presence beyond its primary online marketplace.

“Physical retail brings the circular luxury experience to life in a way that’s incredibly powerful,” McCandless said. “You can walk in wearing something you bought years ago, learn what it’s worth today, consign it with us and discover the next piece you love.”

The company said demand for vintage products on its marketplace has increased 432% since 2020, according to its 2026 Resale Report. More than half of The RealReal’s customer base is also composed of Gen Z and Millennial shoppers. In the second quarter of 2026, the company reported a quarterly gross merchandise value of $617 million, a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.

The RealReal was founded in 2011 and operates an online marketplace for previously owned luxury goods. The company authenticates items before they are sold and handles the pricing, photography, listing, and shipping process for consignors. The Chestnut Hill location will be its first physical store in Massachusetts.
