Now open at 8 State Street in downtown Newburyport, Shine Boutique / Solemates Shoes offers shoppers the perfect combination of women’s clothing and accessories, and women’s and men’s lifestyle shoes. With a focus on quality brands, owners Erin Postl and Ken Wauchope have created two retail concepts that focus on seasonal life in Newburyport.

Shine Boutique is the creation of Erin, combining her creativity and affinity for nature to build a retail concept filled with on trend yet casual clothing and unique jewelry. The store features popular brands including Marine Layer, Emerson Fry, Faherty, Bella Dahl and Favorite Daughter, and many more-- plus numerous denim brands. The carefully curated assortment of brands perfectly unites style and sustainability, with a distinctive jewelry selection comprised of handcrafted items from female-owned businesses.

Solemates’ origin began with Erin mentioning to her husband, Ken that “Newburyport needs a shoe store, and I think you should open one". The idea took root, and when a store space became available across the street from Shine, Ken took this as a sign and opened Solemates. Solemates features Gola, Birkenstock, New Balance, Sam Edelman and Oncept, among other top brands. Erin and Ken conduct their buying as a team so that the clothing and shoes work together. Now both distinctive boutiques will be housed together at 8 State Street.

“We met 31 years ago when we were both working at City Sports in Boston. Owning stores together in the town where we live is a full circle moment for us. We love our 5-minute walk to work, and the Newburyport community. We feel lucky to be the downtown neighbors of so many other wonderful small business owners in this vibrant and beautiful seaside town”, explains Erin.
