• In 1919, a steel tank in Boston's North End collapsed and sent 2.3 million gallons of molasses through the streets; 21 people died, and the company paid $628,000 in damages (newsbreak.com) — Boston's North End is remembered here for the 1919 molasses flood, when a massive storage tank burst and sent a deadly wave through neighborhood streets, killing 21 and injuring about 150.
