Night Time Garden Watch with Tim Brothers! This program is an update to Tim’s popular Stargazing at The Fitz&nbsp;from last June, when he introduced us to the broader impacts of light pollution, from the Milky Way to our own backyards, and described local initiatives to help alleviate loss of the night sky. This time we will “flip the switch” and consider the value of darkness to your garden’s night time environment. Who are the largely unseen pollinators active in our gardens overnight? We will introduce our under-appreciated nocturnal insects such as moths and fireflies, while learning about their benefits to a healthy garden.
In this interactive class, after a brief lecture &amp; presentation from Brothers, registrants will venture into The Fitz's local pollinator garden &amp; Monarch&nbsp;Waystation to observe nocturnal life in action!&nbsp;
$10 Registration Fee to accommodate&nbsp;staffing &amp; seating - All received funds with go toward&nbsp;Fitz&nbsp;programming costs.&nbsp;
*All children under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by an adult to attend.
About The Instructor:&nbsp;Tim Brothers is the Wallace Astrophysical Observatory manager (Westford, MA) and a technical instructor in MIT’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS). As an astronomer and co-founder of the Massachusetts chapter of Dark Sky International, he is a strong advocate for artificial light pollution mitigation. As an educator and activist, he has led numerous outreach and engagement programs, winning MIT’s School of Science “Infinite Mile Award” in 2025. He lives (and gardens) with his family in Pepperell, MA.

The event will feature live music from the tribute band Billy and the Jets, performing the greatest hits of Elton John and Billy Joel.
At 9:00 PM, enjoy an exciting Encore Laser Show with a live DJ from the same company featured during last year’s Pepperell 250th Celebration.

On Sunday, September 20th, Sudbury will host our third inaugural <a href="https://kids.pmc.org/sudbury" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride</a>.&nbsp;Our ride is a 1-mile loop that riders may enjoy as long as they would like. The one mile course is entirely paved and loops through the beautiful residential neighborhoods of historic Sudbury. Parents are welcome to ride with their children but it is not required. If a parent chooses to accompany their child on the bike, we ask that they register as volunteers.&nbsp;
Many kids choose to ride the loop 3-6-12 or even 15 times. We encourage riders to participate as long as they would like. We will have special badges for riders who accomplish 5-8-12 and 15 miles, too! Please indicate at registration an estimate of your rider's total distance (this will help us for event organization).&nbsp;There is also an enclosed parking lot loop all starting from Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, MA. (Adults may opt to register as volunteers if they would like to ride with the kids). Before the ride there will be music and bike decorating; during the ride and following there will be an Ice-Cream Truck, Food Truck, Coffee Truck, huge bouncy castle, lawn games, music and more. All registered riders will get a free ice cream from our friends at Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream. Registration takes place from 8:30am-9:45am. The ride is from 10:00am-11:30am, and food and games will be available from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. Each summer, thousands of riders and volunteers from 43 states and 12 countries participate in the PMC, all with a common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber.”
The Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride empowers young participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a fun activity. By offering multiple course options, every child will have the opportunity to participate and make a difference - regardless of age or ability. Each ride distance is carefully planned to be safe and enjoyable, with designated routes through historic Sudbury neighborhoods that are well-marked and closely monitored by volunteers. For the youngest participants, the tot lot loop provides a secure environment where kids can ride in a contained area - strollers, scooters, tricycles are ALL welcome!
Beyond the joy of bike riding, the Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride serves as a powerful educational experience for children, teaching them about the impact of collective efforts in fighting cancer. As they pedal for a purpose, they learn about empathy, community involvement, and the importance of supporting breakthroughs in treatment and cures at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This event not only raises crucial funds for cancer research but also instills valuable life lessons in the young riders; collectively we all pedal towards a more cancer-free future. As with all PMC rides, every penny donated goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.
