21st Annual Salem Derby Street Mile Returns For 2026

SALEM, MA — Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services will host the 21st Annual Derby Street Mile Road Race next week.

The Aug. 14 event begins at 7 p.m. on Fort Avenue near Cat Cove Marina. The course will run up Derby Street and finish near the Salem Maritime Site.

The race is designed as a fun, family-driven event. New this year, the Derby Street Mile will be run as one race that steps off at 7 p.m. Competitive runners will be asked to line up first, followed by families who want to move at a slower pace.

Registration costs $25 per person and $10 for children age 12 and under. Prices increase as of Aug. 12 to $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Day-of-race registration is scheduled from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the race start on Fort Avenue.

The race is fully sponsored by The Salem Harbor Station. All proceeds from the event will go to the Park, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Awards are planned for both competitive runners and younger participants. A trophy will go to the top male and female finishers in the competitive race.

Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in these divisions: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 and older. All children under age 12 will receive medals.

The first 100 registrants will receive T-shirts. T-shirts and race bibs will be available for pickup at the Community Life Center, 401 Bridge Street, on Aug. 13 from 3 to 6 p.m., or at the race start.
