• Massachusetts businesses push back after city says to remove hand-painted window art: "Keep Salem weird" (cbsnews.com) — Downtown Salem shop owners are protesting new Salem Redevelopment Authority rules that limit how much temporary artwork can cover their windows and how long it can stay up. Business owners say the timing, just before the busy Halloween season, threatens the quirky, artistic character that draws visitors and customers to Salem's downtown. 
• Boater taken to hospital after wave throws two people into water off Nahant (wcvb.com) — A boater thrown into the water by a large wave off Nahant was rescued by Nahant firefighters and taken to Salem Hospital, where their condition remains unknown. The incident, which also drew Swampscott responders, underscores local boating risks just off our shoreline and the critical role Salem's hospital plays in regional emergencies.
