SALEM, MA — Salem is restoring its President George Washington Landsdowne portrait, a painting displayed in Salem City Hall, with the work set to be completed in time for a public unveiling during the city's 400th anniversary celebrations later this year.

City officials said Wellpoint, a health benefits company serving members of the Group Insurance Commission, will fully fund the restoration.

The treatment will be led by Carmichael Art Conservation, which will clean, stabilize and restore the painting using museum-grade techniques intended to preserve it for future generations.
