• Judge rules Sandra Birchmore's journals can be used as evidence in Matthew Farwell murder trial - Boston News, Weather, Sports (whdh.com) — A former Stoughton police officer is heading to trial next month, after a judge ruled that journals, texts, and social media posts from 23-year-old Sandra Birchmore can be used as evidence. Prosecutors say Matthew Farwell groomed Birchmore through a Stoughton police mentorship program and later staged her 2021 death in Canton as a suicide. Her family continues to push for justice as the October trial approaches.
   

• Tax Fraud Blotter: Making waves in Hawaii (accountingtoday.com) — A part-owner of Amelia's, a well-known Italian restaurant in Stoughton, has admitted to a seven-year scheme of paying workers in cash to avoid more than $515,000 in employment taxes. Prosecutors say operator Marios Michalakis underreported wages between 2016 and 2022 and now faces possible prison time and at least $2.5 million in restitution. Sentencing is scheduled for December 8.
