Under Stoughton's Co-Response Program, a clinician accompanies officers on calls involving mental health concerns. The program is intended to connect people with appropriate services instead of unnecessarily directing them into the criminal justice system.

The department said having a clinician respond with officers may also reduce the amount of time officers spend at a scene and improve outcomes for individuals and families.
