Winners Declared In 2026 Wakefield Primary Races
Candidates were vying for state Senate and House seats in the Democratic primary.
WAKEFIELD, MA — State Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian won the Democratic nomination for the 5th Middlesex state Senate District in Tuesday's Massachusetts primary, according to unofficial AP results.
Carey McDonald and Ryan J. O'Malley also competed for the nomination. The 5th Middlesex District includes all of Wakefield.
Wakefield voters also decided two contested Democratic state House primaries.

In the 9th Essex District, Peter Meaney defeated Zosia Jean VanMeter for the nomination, according to unofficial results. That race appeared on ballots in Wakefield Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 7. State Rep. Donald H. Wong ran unopposed for the Republican nomination in the district.
In the 32nd Middlesex District, Leila Bhatti Migliorelli defeated John Higgins for the nomination, according to unofficial results. Wakefield Precincts 4, 5 and 6 voted in that race.

The district is currently represented by Lipper-Garabedian.
In other races, Sen. Ed Markey defeated U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton for the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side, Mike Minogue topped for Brian Shortsleeve for the nomination for governor.
