• 30 Firefighters graduate from Firefighting Academy Three new recruits from Revere among the graduates (reverejournal.com) — A new Waltham Fire Department recruit has just graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, and fellow Waltham firefighter John Shanley earned the class's top Bangs Outstanding Student Award. The 50-day program prepares firefighters for everything from structure fires to hazardous materials incidents, meaning Waltham residents will soon see these newly certified professionals responding to emergencies across the city and region.
