Large brush fire subdued by responders from Waltham and beyond (walthamtimes.org) — Firefighters from Watertown, Waltham, and Newton knocked down a large overnight brush fire in woods off River Street near the Waltham–Watertown line early Sunday. Flames reportedly reached 10 to 15 feet high, and illegal fireworks may have sparked the blaze, though officials have not confirmed a cause. No injuries were reported.

High school roundup/scores: Audrey Manning powers Lynnfield to sweep of Hamilton-Wenham (bostonherald.com) — Watertown High's field hockey team rolled to a 7–0 Middlesex League win over Woburn, highlighted by Jolie Ciulla's first career goal followed by a hat trick. 3. West Nile virus risk level raised to moderate across Mass. after 7th human case (masslive.com) — Watertown is now classified at a high risk level for West Nile virus, along with several nearby cities, as state officials confirm the seventh human case this year. Health leaders urge residents to keep using mosquito repellent, wear long sleeves and pants outdoors, and stay cautious until a hard frost ends mosquito activity.
   

4. Flock Safety failed to secure Boston vehicle data during 2025 pilot, report finds (wbur.org) — Boston's 2025 pilot with Flock Safety license plate readers allowed outside agencies to access vehicle data despite a contract promising isolation, raising fresh privacy concerns that also touch Watertown Police, who requested access. Watertown's state Rep. Steven Owens has filed legislation that would require police statewide to get a court order before sharing such data, aiming to tighten protections around surveillance technology.
