Beloved Westborough Eatery Celebrating 80 Years

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A beloved eatery in town will mark a major milestone with a celebration later this month.

Harry’s Restaurant will celebrate 80 years in business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Route 9 diner.

Harry’s, which is located at 149 Turnpike Road in Westborough. has been family-owned and operated since 1946 and serves classic American diner food, seafood and breakfast, according to the restaurant’s website.

The restaurant first opened in Shrewsbury in 1946 before moving to a former gas station in Westborough in 1968. Founder Harry Cohen, who was from Worcester, started the business as Harry’s Famous Hot Pastrami, according to the restaurant.

The restaurant later added onion rings, fried clams, fish and chips, scallops, sandwiches, diner food and soda fountain items, according to Harry’s. Current owner Jon Cohen took over in 1985 after growing up around the restaurant and working in every position there.

"Thank you to our amazing customers and community," Harry's wrote on social media Thursday. "Here's to 80 wonderful years — and many more to come."
