• Surgeons called to free worker trapped in conveyor belt at Mass. facility (firerescue1.com) — Emergency crews in Westford recently carried out a rare, complex rescue after a worker's arm became trapped in a conveyor belt at the Newport Materials facility. Firefighters and a surgical team worked for about two and a half hours to free the alert, conscious worker, who was then airlifted by Boston MedFlight as OSHA opened an investigation.
   

• Beacon Hill Roll Call, Aug. 10-14 (gazettenet.com) — Westford's state representative Jim Arciero is helping lead a unanimously backed push to toughen Massachusetts' "move over" law, adding protections for utility trucks and roadside workers and boosting penalties for repeat offenders. The same Beacon Hill roundup details a new Medal of Fidelity license plate for families of fallen veterans, a just-signed anti-book-ban law, an abortion-access expansion, tougher penalties for deadly fire-code violations, and several other statewide policy changes.
   

• These are the best high schools in Mass. in 2026, according to U.S. News (boston.com) — Westford Academy has been named one of the top 20 high schools in Massachusetts in U.S. News & World Report's 2026 rankings. The list highlights Boston Latin at number one and shows nearly half of Massachusetts high schools placing in the top quarter nationally, underscoring the state's strong overall performance.
