1. Williams College Lone Proponent for Development of Water Street Lot (iberkshires.com) â Williams College is the sole bidder to buy Williamstownâs long-vacant 59 Water Street lot, proposing either a new Facilities Services building with structured parking or a large parking facility. The $1 million package includes annual donations to the Mount Greylock schools and would free up Latham Street for a new athletics complex, while the town also weighs future plans for the former fire station at 34 Water Street.

2. Williamstown Select Board Makes Recommendations on Town Meeting Articles (iberkshires.com) â Williamstownâs Select Board is backing nearly all 32 warrant articles for the May 19 town meeting, but pointedly declined to recommend a citizen proposal tightening the townâs plastic bag bylaw. Members endorsed new restrictions on rodenticides and PFAS-laden biosolids, supported a conservative town budget, and split over using Community Preservation funds for projects like Sand Springs Pool and a proposed skate park.

3. Farm advocate Sarah Gardner sounds the alarm: 'We have what I consider to be a real farm crisis in Massachusetts' (theberkshireedge.com) â Williamstown is being eyed, along with Adams and Lee, for new farmland protection efforts that could prioritize vulnerable local farms and create a preservation fund to keep them in agriculture. Williams College professor and Williamstown Agricultural Commission chair Sarah Gardner warns that Massachusetts faces a serious farm crisis, with soaring land prices, shrinking dairy operations, and heavy pressure from solar development. State programs and pending legislation aim to make it easier to protect and afford farmland.

4. Leyda Leads Mount Greylock in Comeback Win (iberkshires.com) â A big day at the diamond in Williamstown saw Malcolm Leyda power Mount Greylockâs baseball team to a 15-12 comeback win over Tamarac, going 3-for-5 and reaching base every time. Teammates contributed clutch hitting and relief pitching, including two game-saving double plays, as the Mounties bounced back from recent lopsided losses. Mount Greylock next hosts Lenox on Wednesday.
