📰 News we're reading

• Free Cash strong but declining (homenewshere.com) — Winchester's Free Cash reserves remain strong but are slowly shrinking as the town spends slightly more than it replenishes. Comptroller Stacie Ward reports healthy revenues, strong investment earnings, and surpluses in water, sewer, and recreation, but warns that recreation revenue estimates for FY27 may need to be reduced at fall Town Meeting to keep the budget in balance.

• Select Board authorize tree removal at 612 Main St. (homenewshere.com) — Winchester's Select Board has voted to remove a 21-foot honey locust tree at 612 Main Street after DPW officials deemed its sidewalk-buckling roots a safety and accessibility hazard. Residents split sharply over the loss of a mature street tree, with some urging ADA compliance and safer access, and others warning about precedent and the town's shrinking tree canopy.
