Beloved Central MA Bar Saved From Closure After Sale
Halligan's Bar will stay open after all, as its owners announced plans to close last month.
AUBURN, MA — A beloved bar in Central Massachusetts will remain open after its owners announced plans to close last month.
Halligan's Bar in Auburn was sold to Dan Raymond and Mike and Katie Langway, the current owners of Days End Tavern in Oxford, the business announced Sunday. The new owners are expected to take over Jan. 1, 2027.
This news comes less than two weeks after the business first said it would close Dec. 12 after an 11-year run at 889 Southbridge St. The owners said the decision was an emotional one but that they are looking forward to retirement, traveling and "enjoying our next chapter," in a message shared with customers on social media.
Halligan's opened under the current ownership in November 2015, when Steve Bertel and Paul Brosnihan took over the business.
Bertel and Brosnihan thanked landlord Ray Butler for helping make the sale possible, and announced that the bar’s current staff will remain and its live music schedule will continue.
All previously booked performances and future dates will remain scheduled. A member of the current ownership team will also continue booking bands.
“For all of you and us, Halligan’s will remain our second home and we couldn’t be happier,” the owners wrote.
