WORCESTER, MA — Worcester residents will have two more chances this month to weigh in on the future of the Burncoat school campus.

The Burncoat School Building Project will hold community input sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, and Monday, June 22, at Burncoat High School. The sessions are part of an ongoing feasibility study with the Massachusetts School Building Authority to explore a potential new school building for Burncoat High School and whether a future project could also serve Burncoat Middle School next door.

The feasibility study launched in May and marks the first phase of what could become a major school construction project through the MSBA. The process is expected to examine the existing buildings, enrollment needs, educational programming and long-term facility options before any final recommendations are made.

One major question in the study is whether a future Burncoat project could combine grades 7 through 12 into a single facility. Burncoat High School serves grades 9-12 and includes performing and visual arts programming, while Burncoat Middle School serves grades 7 and 8 on the same Burncoat Street campus.

The MSBA feasibility process includes community outreach, educational planning and design studies before a district can move toward a possible construction phase. The city, Worcester Public Schools and the MSBA are working together on the study.

The Burncoat School Building Project webpage will continue to be updated as the process moves forward, according to Worcester Public Schools. More information is available through the district’s Burncoat School Building Project page.
