Sudbury Town Meeting Begins: What Residents Should Know

A wide-ranging warrant, including the town budget, capital planning and zoning proposals, will shape priorities for the coming year.

SUDBURY, MA — Voters will head to Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Monday night for the start of Sudbury’s 2026 Annual Town Meeting, where a wide-ranging warrant, including the town budget, capital planning and zoning proposals, will shape priorities for the coming year.

The meeting begins Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m. and may continue on subsequent nights if needed.

This year’s Annual Town Meeting includes 39 warrant articles, according to the official town warrant released in April.

Key Issues On The Warrant

FY27 Budget: One of the most significant votes will be the proposed $138.9 million fiscal year 2027 budget, a roughly 5.4% increase over the current year.

Town officials say the spending plan is designed to balance investments in schools, public safety and infrastructure while managing rising costs.

Capital Planning And Infrastructure: Voters will also consider elements of Sudbury’s updated 15-year capital plan, which includes building upgrades, maintenance and climate-related projects.

Zoning And Other Articles: In addition to financial items, the warrant includes zoning proposals and other policy changes that could influence future development and long-term planning in town.

How Town Meeting Works

Articles are taken up one by one, with discussion and amendments allowed before votes are taken on the floor. Because motions can change during debate, participation is required in person.

Sudbury uses electronic clickers for voting, allowing for quicker tallying of results during sessions.

What Happens Next

If not all articles are completed on the first night, Town Meeting will continue on May 5 and May 6.

A separate Special Town Meeting is also scheduled for later in May to address additional items. You can find more information on that meeting here.
