Trailblazing Ballerina Ingrid Silva to Take Final Bow in Worcester with Dance Theatre of Harlem

Marking the end of a two-decade career, the globally recognized artist brings her historic farewell tour to The Hanover Theatre on May 9.

WORCESTER, MA — A historic chapter in the world of professional dance will conclude right here in Central Massachusetts next month. Trailblazing ballerina Ingrid Silva has announced she will take her final bow with the legendary Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) during their one-night-only performance at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

The performance marks the end of Silva’s nearly 20-year tenure with the company, a career defined as much by her technical brilliance as by her advocacy for inclusivity in the arts.

A Legacy of Inclusion Silva’s journey from Brazil to the world’s most prestigious stages has been nothing short of cinematic. For years, she was known for the ritual of hand-painting her pointe shoes to match her skin tone—a labor-intensive necessity in an industry that historically only produced shoes in "European pink."

Her efforts to bring diversity to the forefront eventually led to a permanent place in history; her custom-made brown pointe shoes were acquired by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Beyond the studio, Silva has utilized her platform of over 660,000 followers to co-found Blacks in Ballet and advocate for mothers in the performing arts, famously performing well into her own pregnancy to prove that career and motherhood can coexist on stage.

A Must-See Event for Central MA The May 9 program at The Hanover Theatre is expected to be a celebration of the "transformative power of dance" that has come to define DTH. For local audiences, it represents a rare opportunity to witness a global icon’s retirement performance—an event typically reserved for major metropolitan hubs like New York City or London.
