Worcester Celebrates Reopening Of Revamped Community Gym
A celebration event, titled "One Court. One Community," is being held in partnership with the Worcester Majors.
WORCESTER, MA — The YWCA Central Massachusetts is set to celebrate the grand reopening of its newly revamped gymnasium with a community-centered basketball event on May 2, bringing together local families, youth and sports fans.
The event, titled “One Court. One Community,” is being held in partnership with the Worcester Majors and will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the YWCA’s Worcester facility. It is free and open to the public.
The WYCA is a long-standing community organization focused on equity, support, and opportunity, especially for women and underserved populations.

Festivities will tip off with a live community game featuring the Worcester Majors, followed by a meet-and-greet where attendees can interact with players. Afterward, the court will open up to the public, giving people of all ages and skill levels a chance to join in and play.
Organizers say the event is about more than basketball; it’s about strengthening community ties.

“This event truly embodies the spirit of coming together, on and off the court,” said Shaun Murphy, CEO of the Worcester Majors. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with the community and share our love for the game.”
The celebration also marks a new chapter in the partnership between the Worcester Majors and YWCA Central Massachusetts. The YWCA will now serve as the team’s official training and youth engagement venue, with plans for clinics, mentorship programs and other initiatives aimed at supporting local youth.
“Our partnership with YWCA Central Massachusetts is rooted in a shared vision of using basketball to uplift and inspire the youth in Worcester,” Murphy said. “This event is a testament to our joint commitment to creating safe spaces and fostering community connections through sports.”
Community members are encouraged to attend and take part in the festivities as the YWCA opens its doors to the newly upgraded space.
