Worcester County Sheriff Gives Out Thousands Of Goody Bags To Spread Kindness
Sheriff Lew Evangelidis and his team distributed over 2,500 goodwill bags across the region during the nationally observed week of kindness.

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester County Sheriff led an effort to help people in the community last month.
The Sheriff's Office completed a Random Acts of Kindness Initiative from Feb. 16 to Feb. 20. The effort, led by Sheriff Lew Evangelidis, was meant to spread goodwill and encourage thoughtful actions during the nationally recognized week.
Throughout the week, community teams from the Sheriff’s Office traveled across the region, distributing more than 2,500 donated goody bags containing snacks and bottled water.

The bags were given out at various public locations, as a gesture aimed to remind residents of the care, connection and community focus for local law enforcement.
Sheriff Evangelidis participated in the distribution on Feb. 19, joining the staff in handing out bags throughout the City of Worcester. That included a stop at Worcester Regional Airport, where teams shared bags with both airport staff and travelers.

The initiative drew inspiration from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, a group promoting kindness as a way to strengthen communities nationwide. The organization was founded in the mid-1990s and has since influenced the observance of Random Acts of Kindness Week across the U.S.
“Our role extends beyond enforcement to building trust and strengthening community relationships," said Sheriff Evangelidis in a news release. “We were proud to spread positivity throughout Worcester County and remind residents that even the smallest act of kindness can make a lasting difference.”
The Sheriff’s Office said it received support from several organizations for this year’s effort, including CareOne at Millbury, Pepsi of Worcester, McCarty Companies, and Rockland Trust Bank. The Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association also provided assistance.
The Sheriff’s Office also acknowledged residents, businesses and community partners for their help in making the initiative a success.
