Worcester School Boundary Proposal Delayed After Public Feedback

WPS has delayed the first public presentation on possible school boundary and quadrant changes following feedback from this spring.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools has delayed the first public presentation on possible school boundary and quadrant changes following feedback received this spring.

The school district plans to present initial scenarios to the Worcester School Committee’s Standing Committee on Operations and Governance in August, instead of June, WPS announced on Monday. The School Committee will hold more facilitated public hearings from September through November and is scheduled to approve a recommendation in December 2026, according to the district.

The School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project could affect which schools students attend, walking distances, feeder patterns and citywide or magnet school designations.

WPS has said the project is aimed at reducing overcrowding at schools that are over capacity, increasing enrollment at under-enrolled schools, and better aligning school programming with building capacity and student needs.

The district held public forums and community surveys throughout the spring. WPS previously said about 150 parents, caregivers, staff and community members attended the first forum on March 23 at South High Community School.

The district said it will announce the Operations and Governance meeting date and additional forum dates in the next few weeks.
