Worcester School Jumps More Than 20 Spots In National Ranking

WORCESTER, MA — A school in Worcester has made a major jump in an annual ranking of colleges and universities.

Assumption University climbed more than 20 places in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 ranking of Regional Universities in the North, placing it in the top 30, the school announced Tuesday.

Assumption ranked No. 50 in the category last year, up from No. 57 the previous year. The university also ranked No. 26 among Best Value Schools in the North, according to its 2025 announcement.

U.S. News evaluates schools using measures that include graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduates’ earnings, faculty resources and assessments from academic peers.

The publication made significant methodology changes for its 2027 rankings, including a new measure examining graduates’ earnings by major. Changes to the methodology and the system used to classify institutions led to larger movements for some schools in this year’s rankings.

The announcement came after Assumption was selected to the Princeton Review’s list of best colleges, as well as earning a spot on Forbes' list of 2027 Top Colleges.
