Worcester Schools Closed Monday, Tuesday Amid Major Winter Storm

This comes as a major winter storm sweeps across more than half of the country, including Massachusetts.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools has announced all schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

This comes as a major winter storm continues to sweep across more than half of the country. Worcester is facing cold temperatures with wind chills as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit, along with heavy snowfall of 18 to 25 inches.

As of 11 a.m. on Monday, the city had accumulated 19 inches of snow, with more on the way.

A scheduled Professional Development Day was set for Monday and will be rescheduled. Staff will be notified of the new date.

Head Start and all after-school activities are cancelled. All administrative offices will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Nearly 2 Feet Of Snow Across MA As Winter Storm Warning Continues: See Latest Forecast

In addition to school closures, the city is opening an emergency winter overflow shelter and warming center at Worcester Technical High School, at 1 Officer Manny Familia Way, on Friday at 5 p.m. The facility will be open to the public until 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26.

The city also initiated a Declared Winter Parking Ban.
