Worcester Student-Athletes Shine At Adidas Outdoor Track & Field Nationals
WPS track and field athletes closed out the season with national-level performances in North Carolina.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools track and field athletes closed out the season with national-level performances in North Carolina.
Student-athletes from Worcester Technical High School, North High School and South High Community School competed recently at the Adidas Outdoor Track & Field Nationals in Greensboro, earning season-best marks, setting school records and facing some of the top high school athletes in the country.
South High Community School senior Keylani Amaning competed in the triple jump at nationals, capping off her high school career while representing the Colonels.
Worcester athletes posted several standout relay performances at the meet. The boys 800 sprint medley relay team of Gershom Opoku, Noah Jones, Joel Rodriguez and Kayden Gray placed ninth in 1:35.06, a season best.
The boys 4x400 relay team of Rodriguez, Omega Dennis, Emmanuel Mireku and Gray placed 11th in 3:23.82, setting a new school record. Rodriguez also placed 29th in the 400 hurdles in 56.90, another new school record.
The boys 4x200 relay-A team of Mireku, Jones, Opoku and Gray placed 14th in 1:29.49, a season best. The boys 1600 sprint medley relay team of Jones, Opoku, Gray and Nasredine Yussef placed 16th in 3:42.46, also a season best.
On the girls' side, the 4x200 relay team of Azariah Fullerton, Joanita Boakye, Anahi Ayala and Victoria Salau placed 28th in 1:47.27, setting a new school record. The girls 4x400 relay team of Boakye, Benedicta Honny, Leandra Afryie and Azana Burns placed 31st in 4:23.61, a season best.
The boys 4x400 relay-B team of Nana Brempong, Leet Leet, Yussef and Jonathan Osei placed 58th in 3:33.67, a season best. The girls 4x100 relay team of Afryie, Fullerton, Ayala and Salau placed 52nd in 51.28, also a season best.
