MI Auto Shop Worker Charged After Secretly Placing GPS Tracker In Woman's Car: MSP

The woman told police she started receiving alerts on her phone that a GPS device was near her after getting her car serviced.

CADILLAC, MI — A mechanic is in trouble after he secretly placed a GPS tracking device in a woman's car at a northern Michigan auto repair shop in February, according to Michigan State Police.

Jason Jenema, 49, was charged with one count of tracking device placement or installation on a motor vehicle without consent.

He was placed in jail with a personal recognizance bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 2 at 9 a.m.

Police said the woman hired Jenema to install modifications to her vehicle at a local repair shop in Cadillac.

After the work was completed, the woman told police she started receiving alerts on her phone that a GPS device was near her.

Investigators searched the vehicle and found the tracking device inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. They also searched Jenema’s cell phone and found additional evidence, according to police.
