MI Caretaker Charged In 3-Month-Old Baby's Death

Investigators said the woman was acting as the baby's caretaker when he died.

KALAMAZOO, MI — A Michigan caretaker has been charged in connection with the 2025 death of a three-month-old baby, according to police.

Officers responded to a home in the 3000 block of Heatherdowns Lane in Kalamazoo at 2:12 p.m. on Nov. 5 and found three-month-old Brooklyn Ja’veil Jackson unresponsive.

Brooklyn was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

After a monthslong investigation, officials ruled Brooklyn's death a homicide. They did not release any other details related to his death.

Investigators said Sigsbee was acting as Brooklyn's caretaker.

"We are deeply grateful for the diligence and unwavering commitment of our investigators, who worked tirelessly to uncover the truth in this heartbreaking case," Captain Danielle Guilds of the Criminal Investigations Division said. "We also want to acknowledge the patience and strength shown by the family during such an incredibly difficult time. While no outcome can ease their loss, we hope these charges represent a step toward justice."
