• Pallet company fire draws response from more than 20 departments across the Thumb (huroncountyview.com) — Almont Township firefighters were among more than 20 departments battling a massive pallet recycling facility fire in Goodland Township last week, a blaze visible for miles and intense enough to damage nearby power lines. Crews from across Lapeer and neighboring counties shuttled water, fought explosions from burning tires and containers, and monitored smoldering hot spots into the next morning while investigators work to determine the cause.
