Dearborn Man Charged In Officer-Related Shooting: Prosecutors

DEARBORN, MI — A Dearborn is facing charges in connection with an officer-related shooting that happened last week, according to prosecutors.

Charles William Housman, Jr., 52, was charged with one count of felonious assault, one count of felony firearm, one count of possession of a firearm under the influence, one count of disturbing the peace, one count of felonious assault and one count of felony firearm.

He was placed in jail with a $50,000 bond, with a GPS tether. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 5.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Friday at a home in the 24000 block of New York Street, according to police.

Officers were called to the home for a welfare check as a man was causing a disturbance and yelling "die, die, die," according to police.

When they arrived, prosecutors said Housman walked out of the home armed with a shotgun. He then lunged and pointed the gun at officers.

That's when an officer fired a shot, striking Housman in the leg, according to prosecutors.

Housman was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to prosecutors.

No officers or anyone else was injured in the incident, according to police.

Police said there is no threat to the community.

Since this was an officer-related shooting, Michigan State Police have taken over the investigation.
