Man Shot After Hitting Officer With Car In Wayne County: Police

ECORSE, MI — Police shot and wounded a man who struck an officer with a vehicle in Wayne County early Wednesday morning, according to police.

The incident happened at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Southfield Road near Jefferson Avenue in Ecorse, according to police.

Officers with the Southeast Michigan Auto Crimes Consortium stopped a vehicle with people who were wanted in connection with breaking into several dozen vehicles across metro Detroit, according to police.

During the arrest attempt, police said the vehicle's driver sped up and struck one of the officers.

That's when a nearby officer fired a shot, striking the driver, according to police.

The man led officers on a chase, but he was eventually arrested, according to police.

Police said the man suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to a hospital.

The officer who was hit by the car was also taken to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries, according to police, who didn't list the severity of the officer's injuries.

It was unclear if there were any other arrests. Police did not release any other details.

Dearborn police said the investigation into the officer-involved shooting has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.
