The exhausting journey will eclipse 300 miles.

A Detroit Lions fan is running from Green Bay to Detroit to raise money to fight cancer.

Cody Delorenzo began the run at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, where he took the game ball and will carry it to Ford Field for Sunday's matchup.

The exhausting journey will eclipse 313 miles, but Delorenzo told WXYZ it doesn't come close to the battle that inspired it.

"I want to do something tough, something challenging. Put myself in the shoes of those that are dealing with cancer. The unknown, the next day, you don't really know what's going on," he told the news station.

He also said his inspiration comes from his wife, who is a breast cancer survivor and is now recovering from reconstructive surgery.

As of early Friday afternoon, Delorenzo was in Genesee County with 64 miles left to Ford Field, according to gameballrun.com.

He has raised $42,781, which is 86 percent of the $50,000 goal. The money will go toward the Henry Ford Health's Game On Cancer Initiative.

The 3-2 Lions will play the 4-2 Packers at Ford Field in downtown Detroit on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
