Severe Storms Return To Metro Detroit Saturday Amid Canadian Wildfire Smoke

Strong to severe storms are likely across the Detroit area Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to move into the area sometime between noon and 4 p.m., though they could hit the area as soon as 10 a.m.

Forecasters warned the storms could produce heavy downpours and strong wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

Wildfire smoke from Canada will still impact the area, though forecasters expect shifting winds to begin pushing the thick, smoky air out of the region.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has issued an air quality alert for Saturday as the fine particles from fires could still reach "very unhealthy" in the Detroit area.

Officials recommend avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma.

Highs Saturday will reach 90 degrees before cooler and less humid air moves into the region. The comfortable stretch of weather will see highs in the 80s and linger into early next week, according to NWS.
