Bay College names Dr. Strom as 2026 Distinguished Alumni (ironmountaindailynews.com) — Bay College in Escanaba has named Dr. Thad Strom its 2026 Distinguished Alumni, honoring his leadership in veterans’ mental health care and service to Upper Peninsula communities. A Gladstone native who began at Bay, Strom now helps lead the Oscar G. Johnson VA Healthcare System while mentoring future clinicians and staying active in local schools, faith circles, and a family nonprofit.
   

2. Raven Wood Gardens helping local veterans through garden therapy (dailypress.net) — Local veterans in Escanaba can find support and camaraderie through Raven Wood Gardens’ horticultural therapy program at the Escanaba Community Gardens on M-35 and 23rd Avenue South. The nonprofit offers shared garden space, social gatherings, and even free Honor Bed planter boxes delivered to veterans’ homes to help those with PTSD, anxiety, or depression connect with nature. 3. Legal counsel appointed for receiver in Bark River Knives case (miningjournal.net) — Escanaba readers following the Bark River Knives fallout now have a key update: a Delta County judge has approved legal counsel for the receiver managing equipment left at the company’s former Escanaba facility. Receiver Scott Wolfson is inventorying assets, contacting creditors, and preparing sales that will determine how much money goes back to those owed, while the landlord looks to sell the building. The Daily Press plans continued coverage as the case unfolds.
   

4. Strings on the Bay kicks off season with new director (dailypress.net) — Bay College’s Escanaba campus is hosting a new season of the Strings on the Bay chamber music series, now led by longtime flutist Emily Olson. Concerts run on select Tuesday evenings this summer at the Besse Center Theater, with tickets available online, at the box office, or at the door. Locals can also support the series through sponsorships that include tickets and recognition.
   

5. Michigan lawmakers introduce bill to create statewide community solar program (pv-magazine-usa.com) — Escanaba’s existing community solar project could be joined by many more if a new statewide bill passes, creating shared solar options with guaranteed bill savings for subscribers. The proposal would set strong rules for low-income participation, consumer protections, and local revenue sharing, potentially expanding clean energy choices and investment opportunities for communities across Michigan, including Escanaba.
