Good Samaritan Hit, Killed By Car Along Major Freeway In Oakland County: Police

The driver who hit the pedestrian stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to police.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — A driver who stopped alongside the Lodge Freeway to help others after a crash in Oakland County on Saturday was hit and killed by a car, according to Michigan State Police.

The initial crash happened at 11:39 p.m. Saturday on the freeway near Nine Mile Road in Southfield, according to police.

One of the vehicles involved in that crash became disabled and was blocking two lanes of traffic, according to police.

Moments later, police said a passing driver stopped along the right shoulder. They said the person walked across the freeway and reached those involved in the crash.

While the pedestrian was helping, another driver struck them while trying to swerve away from the disabled vehicle, according to police.
