Windsurfing Regatta Returns to Grosse Pointe

A 17-year windsurfing regatta returns to the shores along Patterson Park from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.

The Grosse Pointe Windsurfing Regatta will have between three to five races and, if there are enough participants, a novice class, according to the Grosse Pointe News.

The number of races “really depends on whether we get enough people for it,” said Grosse Pointe Windsurfing Club member Frank Murray. Typically, between 15-20 people participate.

Those who have never windsurfed are encouraged to check out the action.

“It’s one of the best sports I’ve ever been involved in,” Murray said. “It’s a wonderful time to be out there on the water. It really is.”

It’s also a great sport to watch.

“We encourage spectators to come for sure,” Murray said. “The regatta is really something to see with all those windsurfers out there.”
